The Ultimate Sacrifice

Have been following closely the plight of the 23 South Korean Christians in the news. Amidst numerous emails and SMSs calling for intercessory prayer for their well being, 2 of them has now been killed and the negotiators are not nearer an agreement to secure their release as when they have started.

Some may be asking, "why does the Lord not save them if He has indeed called them into Afghanistan?".

This episode brings stark reminder of our calling from the Lord to follow Him, even unto death. We have read in the Bible of many who have died a martyr's death. Throughout history, many have laid down their lives for the cause.

Jim Elliot, the missionary to the indians who was killed wrote in his journal : "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.". Such is the motivation of men and women who has been so transformed by the Lord that they are willing to go into the danger zones, just so that some souls could come to know the Lord.

So, what is the lesson here?

While every effort is taken to ensure that safety is taken care of, only He can determine how our lives will end. If He calls, our job is to obey, even to the point that it may result in death.
Far be it that this will deter would be missionaries into the mission fields. As I believe, they know what they are looking for....and it is not of this world!
